
MISSION STATEMENT
The New York Council on Problem Gambling is a not-for-profit independent corporation dedicated to increasing public awareness about problem and compulsive gambling and advocating for support services and treatment for persons adversely affected by gambling. The Council maintains a neutral stance on gambling and is governed by a Board of Directors.
About the Council
Operates the State’s 24-hour toll-free Problem Gambling Help line, which provides supportive intervention, information about gambling addiction and referrals for local treatment to self-help (Gamblers Anonymous and Gam-Anon) and professional problem gambling provider programs.
Produces and disseminates information leading to increased recognition, prevention and treatment of gambling problems.
Conducts and publicly supports research activities to establish and document areas of need.
Trains health care and other professionals to assess and treat persons with gambling-related problems.
Participates in governmental planning activities fostering expanded and improved services for residents adversely affected by gambling.
Assists industry and business leaders in developing customer and employee based problem gambling awareness programs.
Sponsors workshops and conferences.
